Beautiful lawns are hard to come by: they require a great deal of work and effort, and it depends largely on the type of soil you have and the time you have to invest in making the lawn look as good as possible. Even when you spend all the time you can making the lawn look good, unsightly things have a tendency to show up. One of the more common items to grow unwanted in your lawn is mushrooms.
If you have mushrooms growing in your lawn, there really is not too much you can do to get rid of them. You want to be very careful when doing anything that will kill the mushroom because you could end up killing other fungi which are healthy for the lawn. The only way you have remove mushrooms without doing damage to your lawn is to remove the fungi by hand. The problem with doing it this way is usually you only see the surface of the problem. The roots of the mushroom are deep and you can only get to it by digging into your lawn.
The best thing you can do with mushrooms is remove the heads when they grow to stop them from seeding and spreading more mushrooms over your lawn. This is by no means a permanent solution, but with will at least stop the spread of mushrooms over your lawn. Mushrooms are actually a good sign, since they will only grow if your lawn is rich with nutrients. Just make sure not to eat the mushrooms, since they are more than likely poisonous and could cause permanent damage.
Other suggestions that have been reported to work are to aerate your lawn around the fungi and to use fertilizer rich with nitrogen to make conditions unfit for fungi. Try these out if you really do not want to have the mushrooms in your lawn.
