Creating a Windowsill Garden. Windowsill gardening can be a great alternative if you have little space. Make sure to get a good windowsill planter and some "soilless" planting mix. Get the plant of your choice and put it in the planter. Be sure to give the plants as much sun as they can get, and water them regularly, but not too much.

Creative Container Gardening. Even if you do not have much room for a garden, buy some containers and go wild with your gardening. If you are creative about what you grow and where you put your plants, you can make a display that can rival even those who have plenty of yard space. Experiment and find out what you like—there is not wrong answer here. Just be sure to take care of your plants or they could die off and leave you with only containers.

Gardening in Pots. Gardening in limited spaces can be done easily by planting in pots. Make sure you have good containers that will not deteriorate over time, and have plenty of drainage. Get a good potting soil that will drain the water out, but still keep the roots moist. Make sure you water daily and give the plants the light that they need.

Gardening on a Balcony. Just because you live in an apartment or townhouse does not mean you cannot have a garden. Use containers to grow plants on your balcony. Make sure to get light weight containers for safety reasons. Study how much sun your balcony gets and buy plants that will grow in that amount of light. Make sure your plants get plenty of water and nutrients, and make sure you have fun with your garden.

Gardening on a Rooftop. If you are lucky enough to have access to the rooftop in your city apartment, you can create a rooftop garden. Rooftops have extreme conditions, so you must be prepared to work hard to keep the plants alive. Make sure to get plants that need tons of sun, can withstand the cold, and are not too bothered by wind. It is essential you give the plants plenty of water and fertilize regularly.

Indoor Gardening. Indoor plants can be used to brighten the inside of your house just like the outside. Be sure that your plant gets everything that it needs. Buy plants that require low amounts of light. Give the plants as much light as you can. Water the right amount with room temperature water. Use clean pots for ever new plant, and use fertilizer when necessary.
