Indoor Gardening

Summary: Indoor plants can be used to brighten the inside of your house just like the outside. Be sure that your plant gets everything that it needs. Buy plants that require low amounts of light. Give the plants as much light as you can. Water the right amount with room temperature water. Use clean pots for ever new plant, and use fertilizer when necessary.

Although outdoor gardens look beautiful, their beauty does not extend to the inside of your house. This does not mean that you are forced to have a drab indoors, since you can easily grow plants inside. Indoor plants are great since they can grow all year long, and will give you a great activity and something beautiful to brighten the mood during the winter months. Indoor plants can also help purify the air in your home, making even breathing more enjoyable.

The first thing to remember when you are indoor gardening is that just because you are indoors does not mean that the plants need different requirements. Your plants are still going to need sun, water, and nutrients. You need to consider how you are going to get these conditions in your house or your plant will die fairly quickly.

Lighting in your house is never going to be the same as outside. You should buy plants that do not need as much light. You can supplement lighting with artificial light solutions, but these will not work as well as the sun. If you keep your plants in a window, remember to rotate the plant, since plants tend to grow toward light. If you think your plants need a little help, put them outdoors during the summer so they get an extra boost before going back indoors for the rest of the year.

When you are watering your plants, be sure not to overwater the plants, since this can kill it. You should also be sure that you use water that is room temperature, since if it is too hot or too cold, the plant could suffer shock and die. The water should be able to drip out of the bottom of the pot. Be sure you know how much water the plant requires since each plant needs something different.

Be sure the soil in the pot has the right nutrients for the type of plant you are growing. This, again, varies from plant to plant. Use fertilizer if necessary. Make sure that if you reuse a pot that you completely clean it out, since it could have the wrong nutrients for the new plant, or, even worse, it could have a disease from the previous plant.

Inside gardening is not too difficult, it just requires a different type of care for your plants. If you treat your plants right, you will have years of great indoor plants to look forward to and enjoy.
