Move around Bedding Plants

Plants can brighten the mood of any occasion. They are perfect for making your yard a great hangout. Unfortunately, even though the thought of having every part of your yard a lush garden may be attractive, it is usually not practical. Instead of consigning all bedding plants to a fixed place in the garden, make them portable. A portable plant is great because it can serve double duty. It can brighten whatever part of the yard you want, so if you have a party, you can make your patio look great, and the next day you can move the plants to the front steps to make the entryway look inviting.

One potential problem with portable plants is that they can be difficult to move, especially if you have a heavy clay pot. Instead of using something heavy, use something strong but light. A good lightweight option is a fiberglass pot, since they do not weigh too much. If you do not plan to move the plants up and down any stairs, you could use a large wooden tub set on castors. A perfect and decorative option is to use an old wooden wheelbarrow, since it has big wheels that make it portable, and it also has a nice decorative look.

If you have a large container, using a lot of dirt will make it even heavier. If you want a lighter alternative, start by filling your pot with polystyrene chips or a similar lightweight foam-based packing material. You should fill it to within ten inches of the top of the pot. After you have this base set up, sprinkle it all with a two-inch layer of cat litter. This will help with drainage. Finish off your layers by topping the pot with potting soil.
